As Cold as Ice

As Cold As Ice Current mood: waking up on Sunday
holy crap!
I need to thicken up me blood some. Winnipeg winters can be chilly. But despite natures attempts to keep me inside reading books, and surfing the internet, I went out last night to socialize with the world. I saw a pretty K.A. band at the "Cavern" the recently renovated basement of the Toad in the Hole..... kind of a weird industrial atmosphere from its former pubby feel, but they had liquor and music and good people, so no worries.
I feel like a dork in my half assed attempt to dress for the weather. I am really out of the game when it comes to this winter thing. But rest assured I have plenty of wool socks and long johns. It's just the whole classy style thing that has gone straight out the window.
also... one side note, everywhere outside that is sheltered from the wind invariably breeds the smoker. i smell like a smoke stack. time for laundry.
Hope you are all warm wherever you are.

Here comes the rain again

Here comes the rain again Current mood: confused
falling on the ground and making trees fall and crushing campsites with high speed winds, but at least the mosquitos aren't out. My travels to Canada for the Winnipeg Folk Festival, or was it Soak Festival, were wicked awesome. The line up was great with only a couple of artists who couldn't make it. It was a lot of hard work this year, so the crazy hi-jinks were somewhat put on hold. The weather was also a little challenging, but the music and fine Canadians all made up for it.
Alas I had to leave, get back to Cali for a couple of weeks to finsih off my Americorps contract, which is actually good, because the night I left a huge Spruce tree fell and crushed the area where my tent had been, and the top of the tree fell on my friend Chars tent. Luckily she is fine. Sometimes, we just need to keep on moving to get out of the way of disaster.
So back in Cali, finished off my responsibilities, sold, sigh, my surfboard, and headed south to see the family. but not before a night of debauchery and vodka at Everetts on the Plaza, where Debbie and Monica, the bestest bartenders in the world work on Thursday nights. When they kick me out at 2am, they are always so sweet about it!
So South I was, and low and behold, an awesome Aussie I had met when travelling in thailand is here in San Francisco! Jane is so cool, we dove a whole bunch in Thailand, and despite my intense lack of email responsibility, we have kept in touch! So I headed down to the city, unaware of the marathon and insane traffic, to pick her up at the Green Tortoise hostel, kind of cool, red lighty district, but neato digs. We got the tourist thing going on, exploring Half Moon Bay, the Monterey Aquarium, Santa Cruz Boardwalk, Alcatraz, AL CA Traz....., and then Angel Island, walking and BARTin' all over the city. drinking cappucinos and lattes in North Beach, although i didn't see a beach, just a little italy kind of digs. but then i had to leave her after three days of fun. because she had to go to new york, and i had to go to REGGAE!!
So get up stand up...
GET UP at 4 in the morning and drive like a madwoman to park and get on a shuttle and get to the Mateel Community Center Snow Cone Booth to
STAND UP and sell snow cones all day to the hot sweltering crowd in the bowl at reggae on the river (ror)
my first year at reggae, and the last year it was held in French's Camp, moving south to the Demmick Ranch next year, which I will hopefully be at. What an awesome time!
I got to hang out with so many shiny people, and was stoked at how cool almost everyone was. I say almost cause on Sunday night I was wondering late night on my onesome and saw some sad end of party antics. Tired D should have just gone to bed, and saved herself from not beautiful sights.
But other than the sad, the river was awesome, and we raged on for a wicked reggae on the river, or on my liver, or something. It was all kind of a blur, a wicked awesome blur of cool people with great vibes and good music.
I am back at my folks place in the bay area, pining for something, but not exactly sure what that is. I have way too much laundry to do and a job to find. I am intent on moving back to Canada, but am stalling or something. I am secretly tempted to stay in a remote part of California and learn everything I can about this guy who makes me laugh my ass off, but then again I am kind of a weird dreamer. Do you concur doctor?
So back to stuff I have to do, and maybe a visit to the Winchester House of Mystery before I join the hobos on the road.
Big Wheels keep on turning Proud Mary keep on burning, rolling, rolling, rolling down the river........
